Hi there! I’m Johan, for nearly three decades, I’ve helped people rediscover hope and strength in the face of life’s challenges. As a registered psychologist in New Zealand, I combine professional expertise with a holistic focus on mind and body health. My goal is to help you feel supported, empowered, and ready to take positive steps toward the life you want. I love helping people change. I know that everyday challenges can be confusing and stressful, but I also know that there’s hope.

Outside of my work, I recharge by spending time in nature, hiking and running in the hills, propagating plants, connecting with people, taking photos, making things with my hands, and learning something new whenever I can. These practices – along with healthy eating – are part of how I look after my own wellbeing, and I often share similar strategies with my clients.

I offer a collaborative process where we work together to understand your challenges, explore solutions, and develop skills for lasting change. My approach is creative, solution-focused, and recognizes the powerful connection between mind, body, and environment.

I specialize in working with neurodiverse individuals—including those with ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)—and people navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, physical health issues and complex life transitions. Since 1995, I’ve supported children, adolescents, and adults in finding clarity, building resilience, and creating healthier ways of living and relating.

To meet each person’s unique needs, I draw on a range of evidence-based approaches, including:

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for building psychological flexibility and values-driven living

  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) for practical strategies to manage thoughts and emotions

  • Family Systems Theory to understand family dynamics and relationships

  • Collaborative Problem-Solving to address behavioural challenges with empathy and skill-building

  • Functional Health Framework to integrate mental and physical wellbeing

The Psychology Series: Mind and Body Connection

I’m excited to offer low-cost psychoeducational workshops to the Marlborough community, designed to raise awareness of how factors like physical health, exercise, social connection, social media use, and lifestyle habits influence mental wellbeing.

These workshops make psychological knowledge practical and easy to apply—helping people understand the mind–body connection and discover strategies that can improve both mental and physical health.
